Even though we make this every year, there is always room for improvement,
or,in this case, making this pumpkin soup a little bit more suitable for our littlest one.
So here is our pumpkin soup recipe , we made this yesterday & it was very much loved by everyone,
& I am pleased to tell you all that it inspired my sweet George to try out another new word: “more“.

The Flower Family Pumpkin Soup

P1200955

You will need:

A mixer
Two small to medium size pumpkins.
one big onion
vgetable stock cubes , we used two
butter

How To:

First, dice the onion & fry them in butter or oil till they are soft.
(Don’t let them go brown though, or your soup will be brown instead of the nice warming orange.)
When your onions are soft turn off the heat & add a vegetable stock cube.

We were also making lanterns out of our pumpkins, so we did not just cut the pumpkins in half & peeled them,
but instead cut off the top with a sharp knife.
You then need to get out all the stringy things & seeds.
Take out the seeds & put them into a bowl to use later.
When your pumpkin is all nice & clean inside , you can use a thin spoon to get out the pumpkin flesh,
or use a sharp knife.
(again, if you are not making lanterns out of your pumpkins afterwards you can always cut them in half, that will make this a whole lot easier.)

Put your pumpkin flesh in with the onions & fill up your pan with boiling water,
then let it simmer for around 20 minutes.
After 20 minutes add another vegetable stock cube & cook for about 5 more minutes.
At this point the pumpkin should be soft enough to mash with a spoon.
If it isn’t, let it simmer some more.
When your pumpkin is soft enough pour everything into a blender & blend it well.
Pour it into a bowl & try it, then decide if you want to add boiling water to it to make it a bit thinner.

You can add salt & pepper to taste,
serve it with bread & roasted pumpkin seeds.

P1200974

(To make those just wash your pumpkin seeds, put them onto an oven tray with some olive oil, sprinkle with salt and roast for about 15 minutes.)

Enjoy!

Emi has been really interested in other people’s jobs recently, & after asking police men , lollipop ladies & shopkeepers about their daily tasks she decided that she wanted to be a postman when she grows up.
Of course a postman needs a postbox, so yesterday, when we were late for church & everyone was inside already, doors closed & all, Daddy & Emi decided to go home & use the time to make just that for her.

P1200848

To make your own post box you will need:

a big cardboard box
a red paper tablecloth
glue
a knife or scissors
a paintbrush
black paint or a black marker

How to:

Cover your box in glue & add red paper,

Let a grown-up cut out a little rectangle for the letters:

Paint on the word “Post” (or “Mail“),
& you are done!

A simple & quick craft for those rainy autumn days.
(& also very good scissor practice for the kids!)

P1200747

You will need:

Paper plates,
scissors,
string,
paint or crayons

How to:

Let your little one’s colour & paint the paper plate:

P1200721

when they are done you can either draw a spiral on the inside for your child to cut out,
or you cut it out for them.

P1200730

I was surprised at how good my Emi was the first time we did this,
so if you feel it is safe for your little one to use scissors, let them try it.

P1200735

When you are done just poke a hole through the head of your snake
& hang it up high.
The thicker your snake is, the better it will spin, the thinner you cut it the longer it will be.

We tend to make rather short one’s nowadays, because sweet George is so very close to walking.

Have fun,
& have a lovely day!

This week has been very busy,
lots of people are visiting, & we have been trying very hard to spend as much time with them as possible.
I apologize for not being around.
Have you all received your swap package?
If you haven’t, please email me at Miri@herewearetogether.com so I can ask your swap partner about it or match you up with someone else.

Now, I better go back to spending a few quiet moments with my family before we get back to this busy week.

When I checked my freecycle emails today (have I mentioned I love freecycle?)
I saw an email asking for a cot bumper.
I decided to reply to let the lady to let her know about the dangers of cot bumpers, & even though I feel I did the right thing I still sort of feel,
well, I feel like the crazy person standing in the middle of the highstreet with a cardboard sign.

Before we had children we did not know about cot bumpers, so I assume that most people , till they have their first child, or even then, just don’t know.
So I thought, just in case, I’d tell you.

Cot bumpers are dangerous.
They increase the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome by blocking air circulation.
They might look cute, but imagine your sweet baby’s head getting trapped under it during the night,
even though your baby would cry for help, you would not hear her through the thick fabric & padding of the bumper.

They are not only not recommended, the SIDS foundation actually advise you not to use them.

Sleeping safely without a bumper. (though there is a soft toy in there, his name is Artie, & Georgie will not sleep without him,
trust me, I have tried..
)
mail

Honestly, I think the risk of my baby bumping his head on the bed is worth it compared to the risk of finding my baby dead.

If you are really worried about your little one hurting her head on the bed, there are alternatives such as AIRWRAP, allowing the air to circulate & no chance of a little one’s head getting trapped.

Please keep your little one’s safe.
