Sometimes, when this little one

P1120118

wakes me in the middle of the night because of an empty tummy,
I just get up. I sew, I knit, & then have a slow day with the children.
But this morning, after another of those nights, & after I poured tea for Emily into a cup that I forgot to turn right-side-up I said (to myself, obviously)
enough is enough,
back to bed, & that is where we will stay.

So I took all our favourite books, our favourite movies, some crayons with paper & of course some knitting into our bedroom, & this is where we spent the day.
We watched a bit of Curious George , a whole lot of my favourite movie ever, Mary Poppins, we drew a lot,we read even more.
It was a great day with lots of cookies & hot chocolate,
but sadly it does look like spring outside, which means that the knit sock season is over.I much prefer autumn & winter..

What’s your favourite season?
Did you ever spend a whole day in bed?

It seems that nothing much else has been happening around here recently,
just a whole lot of sewing ( & singing & playing the guitar, a lot of that, too!).
A friend of mine has just given birth to a lovely baby girl named Sarah,
so today i spend most if my time sewing (& a little bit of knitting) a little set for the new baby.
P1110980
I am very nervous about it, & I might give it to her on wednesday, but I might not, I will have to think about it.
Spending the day doing it made me wish that I had a new baby on the way to sew & knit for, but then I looked down into the sling & saw my sweet little George & realized that he is still very much a baby. (I then made him a little bunny, too.)
We will be busy with Purim preperations the next few days,
what are your plans?

A few days before I moved to England my grandma gave me some old fabric back from when I was a baby.
I have always wanted to make a quilt from it , but I never did, fearing that the second I cut the fabric I will have ruined it all forever & all those lovely memories would be lost.
But yesterday, while both my little ones were asleep, I looked at that gorgeous fabric & thought
I’ll do it.

I am not at all used to guiding the fabric with my left hand while turning that wheel on the side of the Singer, so it’s not straight in any way, but, I love it, & I know someone else who does:

// my lovely mum shared this photo of Emi with me, saying that George looks a lot like her. I don’t remember my Emi ever being as tiny as she looks here!

Have you ever made anything you were really scared of before?
I hope you have a lovely day today!

Last night was wonderful,
I was sewing on that old machine while a little one was fast asleep in the sling.
It was so peaceful , no one hiding in their bedroom because it was too noisy, no broken fingernails from handsewing, & i actually got something done!

P1110821

I decided to use some those vintage buttons for a pair of booties for George,
but when I put them on him Emily was really quite sad because she did not have any, so I made some for her as well.

They look a bit … wonky, because I didn’t exactly use a pattern, but they are quite comfy.

I tried to take a better picture, but
Can you hold still for just one second seems to mean
Please jump up & down & do a little dance around here.

We are off to have Sunday Lunch with the family,

Today was a very good day. We drove up to London to visit Greatnan & Greatgrandad.

P1110798

Not only did we bring back some of her famous pies & several bags full of fabric, but also this:

P1110805

I can’t even begin to explain how very grateful I am , how lucky, how happy & blessed I feel that this was passed on to us, together with a little wooden sewingbox that belonged to Greatgrandad’s mother. I will be sure to take very good care of it, & when the time feels right I hope to pass it on to one of my children, or their children, or maybe even their grandchildren.

& , my favourites, (apart from the gorgeous Singer, obviously!) these lovely vintage buttons:

Any suggestions what to make with them?

Yesterday I was talking to my dear friend Caroline & complained about my lack of yarn, & funnily enough today Greatnan also gifted me a whole lot of it, & I am now looking for nice ideas. What are your favourite patterns, if you are willing to share?
Much love!

Today was a busy day,
we are going to celebrate Purim in playgroup ( we means the kids & I, as Anthony will have to work,sadly.). I tried to find a nice mini book on purim to print & give to each child, but because there weren’t any ,
I made one. (the link will take you to pictures of the book, if you want the book to print it for yourself just email me!)
It’s a very simple version of the story, & very harmless as well,
so today I spent the day writing, drawing, printing, cutting & glueing 27 mini books.

P1110747

Now, just 60 Hamantashen to bake & 27 little bags to sew & noisemakers to build & we are all set..
Did you do anything fun today?

I am sorry updates have not been very frequent, we all have a terrible cold, which hopefully will go away before the weekend, because we want to go visit great-nan & great-grandad in London.
Today was a very good day for us, because, as you might remember, I was on a very short quest to find the perfect teaset for my little Emi.
So my wonderful mother sent us a little surprise all the way from germany!
It’s a gorgeous handpainted little teaset with a fairy on it.
Thank you so much, Mmha!

P1110705

(yes, she is indeed wearing her PJ’s in this photo. They came from Mmha, too.
The best thing about them?
They match.)

P1110666

I love my little ones so much, & even more (if that is at all possible) when they are wearing their Pyjamas. It seems to add about 50 % more snuggability, doesn’t it?
How have you all been?
(I missed you !)

I’ve been feeling a lot like Goldilocks recently,
my bed is too big, my tea is too hot, things are not quite right at the moment.
I think it is just the winter, & the way it seems to be going on forever.
I talked to Emi about this, & we decided that the one thing we really miss during the winter is colour.

So we made this:
P1110646

& a whole lot of these:

P1110648

& I feel happier already. Hopefully we can make some more
of those beautiful lights during the next few days, because they do add so much colour & warmth.
What have you been doing?
What do you do when you need some warmth?

Time seems to fly by,
& I often am sad about it.

I want to remember each little moment,
all of Emily’s silly songs, every single one of Georgie’s tiny yawns,
all the stories we read & games we play, and of course the good morning hugs & night-time snuggles,
so today we decided that we should have the slowest day ever.
We stayed in bed till it felt right to get up,
dressed up in our silliest outfit,
(other things we like to dress up as are “favourite historical person”, “favourite animal”
& “favourite food”),

then jumped & danced on the sofa,

P1110521

read all of our favourite books,

P1110531

& when it got dark outside we got ourselves a nice cup of tea, decided to light a candle
& snuggle up on the sofa to read even more!

P1110392

today was a good day. ♥

I hope your days are full of happiness & lots of snuggling & reading!

ps// you might have noticed that Emily currently uses a plastic teapot & cup .
If you know where to get a nice children’s size teaset please let me know :)

Today we started working with Letter Of The Week ,
to see how we like using a curriculum.

It was a lot of fun to prepare,
even though I am not sure about the themes they chose,
so we might change them to whatever we find interesting.
We will do one week in english & then the same theme again in german,
so , if we stick to it, this will last 56 weeks.

P1110340

P1110350

I am not a fan of colouring pages, but I decided to give it a try,
& Emily really had a lot of fun but quickly decided to ignore the
print & draw on the back of the paper.

P1110379

I like it so far, because it is more guidance than a proper curriculum,
& it gives us lots of room for our own ideas , stories & field trips.

How are you today? How was your weekend?
Do you stick to a curriculum all the time or just use it as a guide?
