This Christmas, with all our presents being
handmade, I had to improvise a bit . I needed
pretty printed fabrics, but could not find anything
i liked. So i decided to print my own fabric using
the gorgeous designs from A Print A Day.

How we do it:

1st, cut your fabric ( I used muslin ) to A4 ,
add some double sided tape around all four sides,
put the fabric onto A4 cardboard / heavy paper.

Then put it into your printer like you would
with normal paper.
That’s the printed fabric coming out
of the printer:

The only problem is that it is not washable,
so you are kind of limited in the uses of
your new fabric.

Note: This will only work in an inkjet printer.

Have fun!

how to make your fabric washable!

It must have been about a week ago that my
mother-in-law looked at me wearing my chubby Georgie in a sling,
poked him into his oh so adorable little babybottom & said
“He’s getting too big for that!”.

& She was right.
At two months old, but 63 cm tall (that’s 24 inches) ,
he was getting much too tall for a size small sling.
So today, while Emi & George where asleep on the sofa,
I made a new sling out of a more stretchy fabric.
It’s a little too big, actually, so he is quite happy in it.

Anyway, here it is:

( Am I wearing my pyjama in this photo? Oooh yes. )

I wish you all a great weekend!

Since it never snows here, but
we really want a snowy winter,
we decided to make some paper snowflakes.
It was really quite simple,
all you need is construction paper & scissors,
& if you want to make them extra pretty
you can use some glitterglue as well.

We cut the paper into circles,
then folded it in half & then in half again,
after that we cut swirls & triangles into it,

P1070749

Then you can open it to see your snowflake!

Make a bunch of them:

P1070750

We were too impatient to brush glitterglue
onto them, Emi wanted to put them up immediately.
They are now on our winter wall, but
would also look really pretty in a window.
We might make some more later
to put them on our nature table as well.

We are all still recovering from our colds,
so we have not been doing a lot.
I hope everyone is well,

As we all still have a cold we won’t do a lot
today. There will be a lot of popcorn eating, cookie baking
& possibly icing-testing, & definitely a lot of sleeping.

( both of them are in this picture,
& both of them are asleep.)

Baby George-Ezra has got a cold. ( yes, again, the poor thing!)
So it’s a quiet day, some drawing, looong baths
& sand prints.

We poured yellow, orange, red, green & blue sand
onto a tray,
then i let emi play with it & mix it up:

then we brushed some white glue onto
white cardboard & made “prints”, :

P1070631

after a few of these all the colours were
mixed together,so emily drew some pictures in the sand.

This might be nice to turn into some thank-you cards
or something like that. The colours are a bit too bright
for our winter wall.
I hope you have a good day!

ps// tutorial for coloured rice is below ,
will probably work for sand , too!

How to make coloured rice.
You will need

things You’ll Need:

2 cups uncooked rice
2 teaspoons rubbing alcohol
1 teaspoon food colouring in the colour you want the rice to be
baking paper

Mix the rice with the rubbing alcohol, make sure all
your rice is coated. Then add the food colouring, stir with a wooden
spoon till all the rice is coloured,
pour onto a baking sheet & leave it to dry for 2 to 3 hours.

That rice can be used on a sensory table, for colour sorting,
for making pictures or simply for running your hands through it .

This should work the same for sand, even though I am
not 100% sure.
We got our sand from a craft shop.
Red & Green works well for christmas cards:

Even though it is not quite winter yet,
we are feeling very snowy.
We have been reading “The Snowy Day” all through autumn,
& now we finally got out all the other winter books.

P1070637

A few favourites from our winter book basket are:

Winter by Gerda Muller (we really love this book, & the other seasons as well!),
The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats,
Frederick by Leo Lionni ( german & english )
Christmas in Exeter Street by Diana Hendry
Weihnachtsmann & Weihnachtsmama (german)
& Emily’s favourite book “A Story About Elise” (german) ,
it’s about a girl who, on christmas eve, wants to prove
that she can pee standing up just like her brothers,
but things don’t go as planned , & when she gets stuck in
the toilet the family of seven have to re-arrange their Christmas plans.

We also love these wooden number puzzles, fuzzy felt balls,
& musical instruments perfect for singing & making
a lot of noise during a dark winter evening!
P1070638

In germany it is snowy already,
& we can’t wait to go.
Is it snowing where you live?
What are your favourites right now?

I am so glad it’s friday!
I spent half the night working on Emis new dollhouse.
I put in new wallpaper, some carpet, cushions, rugs ,blankets,
tablecloths & bathmats ,took out one window,
covered the “brick wall” , & added a roof.
The roof was the most difficult part, as I really wanted it to
have one, but I still wanted the house to be
-playable-. So I made a curtain that is attatched to
the back of the house, so it can be pulled back for playing.

P1070521

Emi still loves it. She has been playing for over an hour now.
This is “Girl” taking a bath in the morning.

P1070538

I think we are going to have a quiet day,
maybe some painting later, but nothing big.
I hope you have a good friday!
