Our Autumn Favourites:

These four grumpy wooden guys, no idea who
they are or where they came from, but we love them:

The “who lives here” game:

The autumn pixie book basket:

These wooden blocks, the marble run Uwe & my mum brought over,
the socks my grandma -Oma Rosel- made, and the jumper Anthony’s
nan made:

P1060140

& Emilys favourite book, Frau Nuss:

P1060107.
Every morning Frau Nuss steps outside to see what day of the week
it is,based on the animals it is raining on that day. (makes sense!)
The biggest of each of these animals walks up to her & asks her for a kiss,
but on sunday it doesn’t rain, the sun is shining & Frau Nuss has a visitor,
it’s Herr Nuss, & this time it is Frau Nuss’ turn to get a kiss.
Emily is absolutely in love with this book ever since my mum brought it
over from germany two weeks ago. We read it at least 40 times a day,
& she doesn’t get tired of it.

Now that we are getting back into a routine I can find some time to
finish some knitting projects I have been working on,
& start making Christmas presents for the family,
less than 100 days to go, & it will take quite some time, but
the best presents are definitely handmade :)

I hope you are all doing fine,
we are really enjoying the rainy weather,
because we get to stay inside & bake cookies & drink tea.

=)

Today went really really well.

We started with sorting, counting & moving beans,
she really enjoyed it:
P1050985

then we transferred water with a sponge , that is her favourite
activity from all the ones we tried today.

After that we just painted a few pictures.

My very talented grandma made this jumper for Emily,
it’s getting a little small now, but she still loves it,
& it’s one of my favourites aswell, i love the colour,
so perfect for autumn & eating homemade pumpkin soup!

This is for painting:

& this is for transferring water with sponges,
the little bottles are foodcolouring.
The spoons are for moving the dried beans from one
container to the other.

Being married to a man
who is not only a great husband & father
but also has amazing cooking skills,
i have been anjoying some winter food recently,
bringing us all some much needed warmth :)
Here are two favourites:

Baked apples:

cut the top off the apple , use a melon ball scoop to scoop out the
insides of the apple.
In a small bowl, combine sugar, cinnamon, butter, raisins & hones.
Stuff the apples with this mixture.
We also put a little piece of butter on top & sprinkled it with more cinnamon.
Bake the apples in the oven for 30 – 40 minutes ( at around 200°C
worked best for us.)
When they are soft , top with vanilla ice-cream.
Eat them while they are warm, obviously !

Bread & butter pudding:

Beat 2-3 eggs & mix with about 300 ml of milk,
add sugar ( as much as you like, we used about 3
tablespoons full, it was very sweet!)
Butter ~4 slices of bread & arrange them in a pot,
pour the milk & egg mixture over it.
(we also added raisins.)
Let stand for about 10 minutes,
then bake in the oven for about 45 minutes at 200°C.

(That’s the pudding before baking. We had it with cream & vanilla ice-cream, it was great!)

Today we got our new car:

P1050663

It’s a weird way to explain how I feel at the moment,
but it somehow all relates to it.
Our new car arrived just in time for our new baby,
& also just in time to pick up visiting family from the airport.
It always is like this, when we struggle, when we think that
there is no solution for our problem
life brings something our way.
Never too early, and never too late.
I am grateful for that.
When we were driving along the coast today,
to get used to the car,
Alanis Morisettes “Ironic” was playing on the radio.
it reminded me of nights where we would sing it to Emily to get her to sleep,
& that night where we couldn’t remember -that one line- , & called Katrin” ,who remembered it.
I am grateful for friends like her,
& I am so grateful for my beautiful family,
my amazing children, & my wonderful husband Anthony,
who gets up every night at 3am to rescue a scared Emily,
& “twinkle twinkle” her back to sleep,
which usually takes at least two hours,
who then stays up just to let me sleep on,
who never complains, never gets angry,
who is always there for us,
never tired of going on long adventures,
who is right there, holding Emilys hand
when she wants to jump in the cold waves.
Who catches every spider & checks
for clowns under the bed.
I wouldn’t know what to do without him.
I am a very lucky girl.

very lucky, indeed.

We went to register George today:
George Ezra Stanley
born on 11/09/08 , 10:16 pm , 3930 g , 58 cm.

Tomorrow he will be a week old ,
& it has been a great week.
We are slowly getting over the lack of sleep,
doing things we love, introducing the boy to the world
& the world to the boy.
It has been a week of -firsts- , first time shopping,
first bath, first trip to the beach.
Here’s George at the beach,

The child must know that he is a miracle, that since the
beginning of the world there hasn’t been,
and until the end of the
world there will not be, another child like him.

Today we took down the paintings & drawings from our Summer Wall
& replaced it with the start of an Autumn Wall. I know it’s a bit early,
but it has been so rainy and dark the past few days,
we really can do with the warmth of autumn colours.

Last night, while waiting for Emi to fall asleep again on the sofa,
i looked up some sewing projects that could be finished
within 15 minutes to 2 hours, so that I have something to keep me busy
while we are waiting for Baby George, & so that I won’t be left with a
half finished project, because there is nothing more annoying than that.

First on the list is this little soft tree ,
it was quick and easy to make , took about 15 minutes in total.
I will probably be making some more to go with the one
I made this morning, & I am thinking about making a bigger one
to use as a doorstop sort of thing, because our bedroom door keeps
closing itself.
Anyway, here is the tree from this morning:

also, one sleepy Emi:
